Patten Hall - The First Boys Dormitory

Patten Hall - Photo: 1976 Upperman High Highlander

The first boys hall or dormitory was initially constructed in 1920.  Additions were added as the school population expanded.  It was named Patten Hall in 1931.  It was destroyed by fire in November of 1936.

From the 12th Annual Catalog of Baxter Seminary, 1922, the Boys dorm was described as follows:
'The new building is unique in design.  Perhaps nothing like it in the south.   It is erected on the unit plan.  Unit "A" is completed.  Its extreme length is 152 feet, depth 54 feet, one story high.  It contains study hall, indoor toilet, sleeping department furnished with individual cots and beds, and electric lighted.  Boys room in the dormitory and take meals in the dining hall in the Administration Building.'

The Administration Building or Activity Hall was later named Ivy Hall.
